Museum of Convento de la Recoleta
This convent was designed by Father Pedro de Peñaloza in 1648 with a church and two cloisters. The architectural complex has four sillar cloisters and has been a museum since 1978. It has a library with around 25,000 volumes dating from the sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth centuries. It also has an ethnographic room, a religious art room, an Amazon museum with pieces collected by missionaries during their time in the Peruvian jungle, a toy room, a museum of pre-Columbian art, and a museum of religious art. The convent forms part of the city’s new cultural circuit, along with a new coin collection room, beautiful gardens, and an old cemetery.
