Traditional town of Yanahuara
Yanahuara, whose name means “black panties” in Quechua, has conserved its narrow streets that twist and turn with the local topography, based on the original Spanish design with its clear Moorish influences. The main square offers an open space for visitors to gather, flanked by a beautiful church, the municipal hall, and an imposing arcade made of sillar stone with a panoramic view of the city and its “guardian” mountains. Inscribed on the arches are phrases extolling regional values. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Arequipa.
